Wimberly Allison Tong and Goo (WATG) is seeking a project designer to join its team in London.

Summary of position

The project designer position reports to senior interior designer or project manager. This position is responsible for developing solutions as they relate to client interior architect complexities. Initiates and creates project designs and plans with the added responsibility for preparing presentation and design drawings. The position of project designer requires extensive experience in all phases of interior architectural services including substantial and varied experience in project space planning and design. Substantial project management experience is required to effectively manage projects in a team environment and to coordinate a project through all phases.

Job requirements:

A B.S. or B.A. in interior design or interior architecture and eight to ten years’ experience in designing large interior projects including urban and resort hotels is required.

  • a substantial level of understanding of design development and all phases of the construction process
  • a thorough level of level of understanding and experience in interior architectural drafting and design development
  • extensive experience in providing architectural drafting coordination on all phases of a project
  • must have strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • extensive experience and ability in the use of AutoCad, Revit, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • strong leadership qualities
  • a thorough understanding of technical regulations and related code compliance
  • must have exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to organise many projects and deliverables in a timely manner
  • this position must have leadership experience and the ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently achieving high standards and goals
  • familiar with WATG’s hotel design programs, rules of thumb, and operators design standards
  • substantial experience in translating design concepts into building assembly
  • a complete understanding of material selection parameters
  • proven experience in managing, motivating and inspiring staff at all levels of the organisation is essential
  • the ability to present and communicate (both verbally and written) complex concepts and material to clients and staff

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to

Through proper utilisation of staff, team and resources the project designer position has project responsibility for the following:

  • interior space planning
  • imagery identification
  • furnishing layouts
  • freehand sketches
  • furnishing, colour and material boards
  • product resource and research
  • rendered plans and elevations
  • cost estimating
  • coordinates project teamwork with staff and related consultants
  • furniture, fixtures and accessories specifications
  • shop drawing review
  • client presentation skills
  • construction administration for interior detailing
  • construction administration for furniture fixtures and accessories
  • purchase order review
  • will perform other project and duties as assigned by the manager
