Hospitality technician/designer

byWatkins Buildings and Interiors is looking for a middleweight hospitality technician/designer to join its team in London.

byWatkins has a specific opening for an experienced hotel design technician, who will work on UK and international five-star large-scale hotels and high-end residential projects.

Reporting directly to the co-founders who form part of the hands-on creative design team, this is a great opportunity to be at the forefront of a fast-growing new studio with a history of excellence in architecture and interior design.

Strong and specialist hands-on experience working on five-star lifestyle hotels and high-end residential is essential.

In terms of personality, you will be highly motivated, independent, and positive with a can-do attitude. This role is challenging, and you will be required to take on responsibility and solve problems whilst demonstrating a professional manner.

Key duties:

  • support the co-founders in a technical role developing projects from concept to completion
  • assist in the design and coordination with other consultants’ architects, MEP etc
  • developing space planning and design sketch concepts into technical drawings
  • creating detailed technical design packages, specifications, and tender documentation for sharing with hotel clients and contractors
  • hands-on detailed CAD design and detailing (AutoCAD)
  • assist in the management of CGIs and other creative assets and documentation relating to the projects
  • create unique and inspiring design of joinery/ millwork bars, etc and key FF&E
  • creating specification schedules for interior architectural components and control books
  • attend and support meetings with clients, suppliers, and contractors by preparing minutes and implementing design revisions
  • coordination of FF&E

Skills and experience needed:

  • evidence of successful experience working on large-scale hotel projects for a minimum of six years
  • both highly creative and technically strong
  • strong construction, fabrication and on-site knowledge and experience, specifically in the hotel sector
  • proven ability to develop a concept through schematic and detail design stages
  • proven experience working with fabricators, specialist suppliers and manufacturers to design and procure bespoke products and finishes
  • excellent organisational skills and an ability to work well under pressure, meet timelines and deliver projects well
  • great communication skills, a positive entrepreneurial attitude, and the ability to work well in a team
  • experience managing junior designers

Technical skills:

  • advance proficiency in AutoCAD (essential)
  • advance proficiency in InDesign and Photoshop
  • SketchUp is a bonus
  • Revit is a bonus
  • Microsoft Office

Salary:

  • salary and benefits are based on candidate experience
  • you must have UK residency and be based in London
