Communications manager

Haworth Tompkins is seeking a talented communications manager to join its London studio.
Founded in 1991 Haworth Tompkins is a Stirling Prize-winning studio of around 100 people, working across the culture, housing, mixed use, industrial, education and masterplanning sectors. We are an Employee Ownership Trust, a B Corp, founding members of Architects Declare and named the AJ100 Practice of the Year in 2020 and 2022.
The communications manager works across all project sectors reporting to the directors and will be responsible for maintaining exposure of all activities as well as bringing visibility to new areas of innovation. The studio is moving this summer, which will be an ideal opportunity to develop an events programme and internal and external comms strategy around our new home.
Key responsibilities:
- coordinate and lead monthly comms planning meeting, presenting analysis and assessing new opportunities
- develop a PR planner for the year including awards deadlines, milestones and calls for submissions
- manage all press liaison, nurturing good working relationships with key members of the press, curators and event programmers
- coordinate with client teams, consultants and external PR agencies to align communication strategies
Strategy:
- liaise with directors to establish areas of focus and key messages
- establish a PR strategy around key project and practice milestones in close collaboration with the directors
- work alongside the new business manager to develop an integrated marketing strategy
- manage the business development team, collating a calendar of events and speaking opportunities, and helping to identify practice members to participate
- generate and programme events i.e. project launches, press views, building tours, receptions and open studios
Communications:
- collate all project assets in close collaboration with project teams
- commission and schedule photography/filming and edit imagery for a range of platforms
- manage OpenAsset visuals library, sourcing in-progress documentation for projects
- manage and create content for the website and social media channels, including generating news stories and project text as well as profiles on directories and online platforms
- manage in-house sector-focused publications and oversee content for new architectural titles
Additional responsibilities:
- prepare and submit award applications
- plan and create regular newsletter and manage mailing list
- develop an integrated database for PR and clients across all sectors
- manage the PR budget
Required skills and experience:
- exceptional writing and editing skills
- attention to detail and meticulous organisation skills
- a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for architecture and its capacity to make positive societal change
- collaborative approach with the ability to foster strong internal and external relationships
- an interest in current trends and issues in the built environment globally
- ability to plan work and meet deadlines and to handle unexpected situations calmly and effectively
- a working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, CMS, social media channels, email marketing software and associated analytics
- minimum of three years’ experience in a communications role for the built environment sector preferably within the UK
