CTO Lighting is seeking a product developer to join its team in London.

CTO Lighting is a family-owned business that has built an enviable reputation worldwide over the past 25 years working with some of the leading interior designers such as David Collins Studio and Martin Brudnizki on exclusive projects such as Chiltern Street Firehouse and St Pancras Hotel. This is a great opportunity to work with some of the industry’s finest in a progressive design-led company.

We design and manufacture a range of luxury lighting distributed through our worldwide sales network. Our head office and showroom are in London with an assembly facility in Birmingham, all of our lights are hand-made by our skilled production team with the majority of our components sourced in the UK and unique parts from Europe.

CTO Lighting is looking for a product developer to work within the design team reporting directly to the design manager. We are looking for someone who wants to join our friendly and experienced team, working within a fast-paced commercial environment to expand and support our product range.

You will:

  • develop light fixtures based on given concepts through experimentation, prototypes and full production to meet the design brief
  • work with milestone planner and critical path
  • project managing each stage of product development, ensuring products are delivered on time and to the highest standards
  • track and manage product costings and make sure the new product’s cost price targets are met and the brand’s values are reflected
  • work with other departments and external partners to deliver prototypes on time and identify opportunities
  • visit suppliers with other team members or departments as well as regular visits to CTO’s assembly facility
  • build and test prototypes, you must be familiar with workshop facilities and be passionate about making
  • hands-on role, and you must be solution led as well as enthusiastic with experimentation on manufacturing techniques on various materials
  • ensure a commercially viable product through pragmatic problem-solving, product engineering and design revisions
  • support our assembly facility, quality controls, supply chain and logistics department with required documents and implementation for new products before launches as required
  • produce accurate and detailed 2D/3D manufacturing documents ensuring they correctly meet standards and tolerances
  • support and implement activities related to national and international trade shows or other marketing-related activities
  • other duties to support the design team or the business as and when required

We would like:

  • degree in product design, furniture design or equivalent
  • minimum three years of relevant experience in lighting production design or product development role
  • knowledge of lighting and the interior industry
  • passion for product development, experimentation and problem-solving
  • familiar with workshop environment and passionate about building models
  • experience in leasing with other departments, factories and suppliers
  • enjoy factory and supplier visits
  • high attention to detail
  • proficient in CAD (SolidWorks), Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, and MS Office Excel and Word
  • strong project management and efficient planning skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • high level of numeracy and literacy in English and able to work in the UK

As the ideal candidate you will:

  • passionate about the design industry
  • hnowledge of lighting standards, such as UL, CE and CB, is a benefit
  • experience in electrical and lighting technology, including LED, dimming systems and drivers, is a benefit
  • flexible and adaptable with a dynamic approach to your work and lots of common sense
  • mature, enthusiastic and professional with others either internally or externally
  • enjoy a challenge and do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • clean driving license

There is a statutory pension scheme and 20 days holiday and an extra 1 day for every 2 years worked, up to 5 days, plus statutory holidays.

Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm and Friday 8.30 am to 3:30 pm.
