Lina Ghotmeh—Architecture is looking for a project director to lead a major international cultural project for the practice in Paris.

Lina Ghotmeh—Architecture (LG—A) is an international practice based in Paris, assembling a team of talented architects, designers and researchers. Rewarded and published, the works of the workshop cross scales, from objects to museums, and geographies, from France to Japan. Sensitive to material explorations, LG—A is committed to sustainable and ecological architecture. Every design emerges from a research-driven process following an “archaeology of the future”, where each new design reinvents the traces of its past. Among the practice’s projects are the acclaimed Stone Garden tower in Beirut, the Serpentine Pavilion 2023 and the first low carbon energy-positive manufacturing building in France delivered for Hermès.

Main Project you will lead:

  • a major international cultural project, the language of work would be English
  • the project is to be developed from RIBA 1 to RIBA 5
  • the work will be carried out with high-quality requirements by the architect and in interface with a demanding client and strict deadlines to be met
  • a multidisciplinary team of subcontractors is engaged in the project and would need to be coordinated and orchestrated to ensure the coherence and the high quality of the design
  • the project incorporates innovations, particularly in terms of the construction materials used and its programmatic design
  • precise contractual and administrative agreements to manage

General roles and responsibilities of a project director:

  • manage one or more projects
  • manage the architectural, technical and financial coherence of the projects
  • manage and establish macro-planning of projects and internal production deployment planning
  • manage the internal teams associated with the projects (architects, project managers if necessary), the quality of their production and their workload schedule while ensuring the efficiency of the established work and the respect of the pre-established delivery dates
  • identify the needs of external service providers for cross-functional productions, and set up quotes and validations (FFE, BIM, CGI, etc)
  • manage contracts, invoicing, production and rendering schedules of subcontractors and co-contractors of projects
  • manage interfaces with the client, represent the practice and negotiate contracts, additional missions and associated fees
  • ensure quality in accordance with the practice’s requirements, profitability and timeliness of the project
  • oversee and coordinate a team of several architects, ensure recruitment, training and management of teams
  • resolve and coordinate the resolution of internal and external challenges related to project
  • assist in the management of existing and future customers, the management of project contracts and project schedules, ensure the implementation of projects in all phases, manage production and customer relations in accordance with the guidelines given by agency management
  • participate in the deployment of the agency’s strategy and its commercial development in general

Reporting:

  • regular reporting of the design to the author/principal of the practice
  • regular reporting of the progress and the financial/HR balance sheet of each project, in coordination with the other directors and/or project managers
  • participation and organisation of managerial meetings

Required experience:

  • ability to fulfil the role described above
  • experience of minimum eight to ten years in high-quality cultural projects including museums from design to construction
  • experience in RIBA 1 to 5 (developed and supervised all the RIBA design stages)
  • perfect command of English (oral and written, current and technical)
  • ability to manage complexity and a large team
  • has initiative, ethics and force of proposal
  • great organisational and managerial skills
  • has good design skills, able to develop the guidelines of the main architect and precise
  • has the capacity to synthesize and is keen on problem solving
  • has worked with various cultures and is passionate about different cultures
  • optimistic, positive and engaged in sustainable designs
