Gibson Thornley has an opportunity for an architect to join its team in London.
We are looking for a qualified architect with package experience to work on projects across a variety of sectors. Our current projects include the refurbishment of listed buildings, cultural buildings, office retrofits, new built life sciences and schools.

Role and responsibilities
Architects will be responsible for the design of buildings, other structures and interiors, and the delivery of projects across all RIBA workstages. They work with clients to understand their needs and desires for a project and create detailed plans and drawings to guide the construction process.
You will either take on responsibility for specific packages of work within a project team, or dependent on experience, act in the role of project architect – leading the project autonomously, and reporting to an associate or director. In both roles, you will be responsible for ensuring that the studio’s ethos and procedures are embedded into your projects.
It is likely that you will be responsible for managing architectural assistants if you are in a team, and you should be able to act as the lead for a consultant team.
Skills and qualification
We require that you have completed your RIBA Part 3 qualification in the UK, or overseas equivalent. Should you be registered as an architect overseas, we will require you to have completed the Part 3 lecture series and/or have prior experience in delivering work in the UK. We require you to have the right to work in the UK.
Required skills are listed below:
- comprehensive knowledge of all project work stages
- proficient in Revit, and experience in Enscape preferable
- adept in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- well-versed across the Microsoft Office Suite
- proficient NBS specification writer
- clear and effective design, presentational and report writing skills
- articulate and excellent written and spoken English
- rigorous approach to design
- strong technical and detailing ability
- self-sufficient and able to take initiative, with a proactive attitude and innovative mindset
- ability to work well in a team, or independently
- commercial awareness and understanding of effective project management
- diplomatic and able to resolve disputes in a professional manner
- UK architectural practice experience required
- strong understanding of the planning process, Building Regulations and British Standards
- ARB registered, or equivalent as defined above
Experience:
- well-rounded experience across all RIBA work stages
- package experience from RIBA Stages 3-5
- preferably at least two years’ practice experience post-Part 3
- experienced in managing project teams and working collaboratively with clients, consultants, and contractors
- accomplished in presentation to clients and client bodies
- well-developed and evidenced experience in UK construction
