About the role
We have a senior-level opportunity for a design director to join our international architecture and master planning practice in Edinburgh. As a key senior member of our team, you will work on diverse international projects ranging from large-scale master plans to individual buildings. We pride ourselves on bringing innovative design solutions for multicultural projects with economic and social integrity.
The design director is responsible for always achieving excellence in design while representing 10 Design and its design philosophy to the highest quality standard. They are required to act as a primary point of contact for clients and external consultants for all design-related issues. The role also involves driving the creative direction of the architecture teams, overviewing the coordination with other consultants to ensure an appropriate, high-quality architectural product is delivered on time and within the outline budget.
Key responsibilities:
- create and develop the design philosophy and vision of the studio
- generation and curation of conceptual proposals for all projects in the studio; in particular in regard to pre-concept, concept and competition work stages
- identify trends and future design directions, inclusive of technology/tools supporting the design process
- responsible for managing, motivating and developing team members and the studio culture
- drive the development and growth of the company
- ensure overall profitability for design projects
Requirements and qualifications:
- degree educated – RIBA Parts 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent
- registered architect – ARB or equivalent in country of origin
- RIBA or equivalent membership preferred
- excellent design skills
- ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- excellent communication presentation skills
Experience
- at least 10-15 years’ experience
- no less than five years’ experience acting in a management position within a consultancy
- key sector experience – international range of projects including Middle East, Europe and North America
- project typologies must include, but not be limited to, master planning across geographies and sectors, mixed-use urban planning, office, hospitality, residential, cultural and commercial
