Role overview

Aman Interiors is seeking an experienced, highly proficient senior freelance furniture developer to join our London-based team on an immediate, short-term contract basis. Working directly alongside our product developer, this role is focused on intense technical execution, 3D modelling and documentation support across high-end residential furniture packages.

The ideal candidate is an advanced SolidWorks expert who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision. Because this is a supporting role designed to alleviate immediate workflow pressure, your primary focus will be translating design intent into flawless technical packages, freeing up internal management to handle direct supplier and manufacturer communications.

Key responsibilities

Technical design and product development:

• technical drafting and modelling: rapidly produce and refine detailed furniture assemblies, parts and parametric models using SolidWorks to elite production standards
• technical package production: generate comprehensive technical drawings, specification sheets and fabrication-ready documentation under your direction
• shop drawing review: thoroughly check and markup incoming shop drawings for technical accuracy, joinery integrity and adherence to Aman’s design standards
• data and matrix maintenance: support the management and structuring of complex product matrix spreadsheets, master specification logs and BOM tracking documents
• internal collaboration: work hand-in-hand with the internal team to execute design changes and resolve structural engineering hurdles efficiently

Project coordination and documentation:

• support the technical design process for assigned furniture pieces, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met
• maintain clear and accurate design documentation from concept development through to installation or final production
• prepare and support tracking documents, including Excel spreadsheets for product codes, design status, materials, specifications and supplier information
• coordinate effectively with internal design, product and procurement teams, as well as external manufacturers and suppliers
• ensure all design outputs are organised, clearly communicated and suitable for internal review, client presentation and supplier execution

Required skills and experience:

• five-plus years of professional experience in luxury furniture development, bespoke manufacturing or high-end residential interiors
• expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks is essential, including complex surface modelling and technical drawing creation
• deep, intuitive understanding of high-end furniture construction, material behaviour (wood, metal, stone, upholstery) and production limitations
• immediate availability to drop into active projects with zero onboarding delay
• strong competency across Rhino, KeyShot, AutoCAD and Excel matrix management

Qualifications:

• degree or equivalent qualification in furniture design, product design, industrial design, interior design or a related discipline is preferred
• a strong portfolio is required and must demonstrate furniture design capability, technical development and production understanding
• fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required
