Applied Information Group is hiring a senior wayfinding graphic designer to join its team in San Francisco, USA.

We deliver a range of exciting projects that improve the experience of navigating environments including cities, workplaces, transit, medical facilities, museums, university campuses and retail centres.
About the role
Applied Information Group is looking for a talented, full-time senior graphic designer with a passion for wayfinding and design that supports people navigating their environments.
You will be involved in the successful delivery of environmental graphic design and wayfinding projects, both in the Bay Area and in partnership with Applied’s other offices in London, Vancouver and Seoul.
You will collaborate with other designers and planners on all aspects of the design process from user research, through strategy and concept, to detailed design and implementation.
We are looking for a candidate who can:
- play a project lead role, depending on the project stage scope/deliverables
- deliver projects from conception to production with minimal supervision
- design concepts for wayfinding and environmental graphics programmes
- develop sign elevation drawings and specifications for wayfinding programme outcomes
- create and refine message schedules and construction packages
- prepare, issue and present client-facing design documentation
- assist planners with location planning and mapping for wayfinding programmes
- coordinate with signage production and installation vendors including review of shop drawings, attendance at site meetings and deficiency reviews
- perform site assessments, visitor needs assessments and participate in engagement activities
- typically delegate tasks involved in the project delivery to the wider team and have an oversight and support role
- play an active role liaising with relevant sub-contractors and suppliers
- plan and lead design workshops with the wider team as needed
- play an active role with the AM/PM in monitoring project scope creep and defining costs and schedule changes for negotiation with clients
- experience of industrial/product design for wayfinding signage, including the drafting of design intent drawings and specifications
- experience designing or incorporating non-visual communication elements into designs, products or experiences
- play a leading role in presenting project work to clients and stakeholders
- travel as appropriate and necessary
Who we are looking for a candidate with:
- five to seven years of experience in experiential/environmental graphic design, graphic design, wayfinding, urban design, architecture or related industry
- a portfolio that demonstrates graphic and typographic skills and your dedication to the craft of your final designs
- ability to talk and write articulately about your decision making and the developmental work behind your designs and to work collaboratively to ideate, visualise and iterate strong design concepts as part of a project team
- a keen graphic eye and ambition to deliver projects of the highest quality
- a passion for creating user-centred, empathetic design solutions
- proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop)
The following skills are not essential but advantageous:
- experience creating city, transit, campus and/or building maps and diagrams
- knowledge of GIS software, such as QGIS, working knowledge of 3D CAD software such as Vectorworks and experience using Figma or other UX/UI tools
- familiarity with ADA, MUTCD and other regulatory standards related to signage and displayed information
- experience working with fabricators
