This role is for a design-led landscape architect who wants to work on regeneration, public realm, education, healthcare and selected residential projects across the UK, while enjoying the quality of life that comes with being based in the North East.
You’ll be based at Sailors Bethel, our own studio in Newcastle – a characterful, welcoming space with free parking, excellent public transport links and easy access to the wider region.

The role
We are seeking a senior/principal landscape architect who thrives on design leadership, planning-led projects and client engagement.
You will lead projects from early concepts and planning strategy through to detailed design and delivery, working across regeneration, public realm, education and healthcare schemes located around the UK. The role involves travel to sites, meetings and workshops, offering variety, responsibility and visibility.
Beyond projects, you’ll play an active role in:
- supporting bids and proposals
- contributing to practice-wide thinking and positioning
- developing trusted client and collaborator relationships
For the right person, this role offers scope to progress into senior leadership and, over time, director-level responsibility within an employee-owned practice.
Key responsibilities:
- lead and coordinate landscape projects across regeneration, public realm, education and healthcare sectors
- shape strong, design-led responses from concept through planning and delivery
- prepare, manage and review planning and technical information
- integrate nature-based solutions, SuDS, BNG and climate-resilient design throughout all work
- build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, collaborators and framework partners
- contribute to bids, proposals and thought leadership
- mentor junior colleagues and help nurture a positive, creative studio culture
What we’re looking for:
- chartered landscape architect (CMLI) or equivalent
- strong design sensibility with confidence in planning and delivery
- experience across public realm, regeneration, education or healthcare projects
- experience of LVIA is advantageous but not essential
- an interest in developing landscape planning and assessment skills, including LVIA
- comfortable leading work, making decisions and representing the practice
- a confident communicator who enjoys working with people
- knowledge of SuDS, BNG and sustainable design principles
- proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite (Revit welcomed)
- a positive, collaborative and outward-looking approach
