BetterPAD is hiring an architect/experienced Part 2 to join its team in Surrey, UK and remotely.
An award-winning boutique architecture practice is seeking a talented and motivated architect/experienced Part 2 to support the delivery of high-quality, design-led residential projects from early concept through to completion on site.
This full-time role offers the opportunity to work closely under the director during the concept design and planning stages of projects, before taking increasing responsibility for technical design, coordination and on-site delivery. The practice works with specialist technical architects and technicians to achieve an exceptional standard of technical documentation, and this role will sit at the intersection between design intent and delivery.
The position is well suited to an architect/experienced Part 2 who is motivated by seeing projects built, enjoys the construction phase, and wants to develop strong end-to-end project experience.
Role description:
- working closely under the director during the concept design and planning phases of projects
- developing schemes beyond planning and taking an increasingly leading role through technical design, coordination and delivery on site
- working collaboratively with specialist technical architects and technicians to translate design intent into clear, robust and buildable technical information
- close liaison with and coordination of all external consultants, suppliers and specialist trades to ensure buildability, quality and alignment with design intent
- presenting work clearly and confidently to clients, both independently and alongside the director
- regular attendance at weekly construction site meetings across London and Surrey
- maintaining design quality and technical rigour through the construction process
Experience:
- architect or experienced Part 2, with strong experience in UK-based private residential projects
- proven experience in extension and refurbishment projects, with exposure to new-build residential schemes desirable
- sound knowledge of UK planning and building control processes, and an understanding of how these translate into high-quality built outcomes
- experience working alongside technical architects, technicians or specialists, with an appreciation for rigorous documentation and coordination
- passion for ecological architecture, low-impact construction and improving the performance, longevity and quality of residential buildings
- strong organisational skills, clear communication and attention to detail, particularly during technical and construction stages
- a proactive, delivery-focused mindset, with enthusiasm to take ownership of project stages and grow into a more senior role over time
Software
The practice is transitioning from Vectorworks (2D) to ArchiCAD. Experience with ArchiCAD is therefore highly desirable, and Vectorworks experience is beneficial. The practice also uses SketchUp and the Adobe Suite.
Location
BetterPAD is based in Oxted, East Surrey. Projects are located across London and Surrey, therefore the ideal candidate will be Surrey-based or within reasonable commuting distance, and willing to travel to site as required.
Office
The practice operates primarily on a remote basis. Given the collaborative and delivery-led nature of this role, occasional time working from the Director’s home office in Oxted will be required.
