Freelance architect/interior architect
at Studio Sutton

Studio Sutton is looking for a freelance interior architect/designer or qualified architect with Vectorworks experience to join its team in London.

The studio currently has exciting projects in the co-working sectors in the UK and internationally, and regularly collaborates with other creative companies and professionals on an international level.

As an interior architect or equivalent within our team there is the potential to be involved at each stage of project development from feasibility and concept right through to tender, construction and handover. There is scope for you to play an important role in shaping and defining the design of projects. As our studio is recently formed, there is potential scope to help mould this opportunity to suit your own goals and ambitions, as well as the overall development and progression of the studio.

Our core operation is based in Marylebone, in a studio which we share with other creative professionals. However, with prior agreement, there is scope to work from home or elsewhere appropriate to suit your individual needs from time to time. However we will expect strong engagement and commitment in return for this flexibility.

Our projects are currently based in London but you may be required to travel within the UK or abroad to attend project sites, suppliers and client meetings or trainings as required.

The role:

The successful candidate will:

  • develop design concepts through a variety of media including sketching, computer 3D-modelling, 2D CAD drawing, material moodboards and concept presentations. Plus any other means necessary to ensure a timely and successful delivery of the project
  • prepare and finalise client presentations and packages of work
  • prepare and finalise specifications and selection of materials and furniture
  • prepare and finalise joinery and fixed furniture drawings
  • prepare and finalise general arrangement plans and elevations
  • engage in site visits and inspections
  • support project management to ensure a timely delivery of the project
  • actively engage in researching current trends in global design culture, workspace design, architecture, art, furniture and materials.
  • build and maintain digital libraries of inspirational and technical references and physical libraries of material samples
  • contact suppliers and request all relevant information in relation to new specifications or designs to suit the project in hand
  • communicate confidently and effectively with senior designers, directors and other project stakeholders including the client, identifying potential risks and opportunities for projects
  • contribute to administrative processes of the studio

Requirements:

  • BA interior design/interior architecture degree or an architecture qualification or equivalent
  • five years’ UK experience in the commercial workplace and fit-out sector
  • excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a design team
  • experience in all areas of design projects from concept to tender to handover
  • creative flair and a keen eye for detail and quality
  • can work well as part of a small team in a fast paced environment
  • self-motivated with excellent intuition
  • five years’ minimum experience as an interior designer/interior architect/architect or equivalent
  • good knowledge of and ability to navigate UK building regulations related to interior commercial fit-out projects
  • excellent skills in 2D Vectorworks. Applicants with Vectorworks 3D skills is a bonus
  • applicants without any Vectorworks skills will not be considered
  • excellent skills in Adobe Creative Suite Applications.
  • ability to work in an Apple Mac environment
  • UK resident status and legally able to work in the UK
  • available to start immediately
