The practice of 27 multi-disciplinary people creates interactive spaces and surfaces that sit between the world of architecture, site specific installation art and interaction design.
Job overview
We are looking for a talented and solution focused electronics engineer to join our vibrant studio. Working across a variety of exciting commissions, you’ll uphold the high standard of work within the studio as well as helping to support team members on global assignments.
The role will find you working alongside the JBS technical team which comprises of 12 people. This includes computational designers, creative technologists and production assistants as well as a few junior/intern positions. You will be working closely with the Senior Creative Technologist and Head of Production to deliver exceptional innovative and ground-breaking installations.
The position will involve a large amount of experimentation and prototyping within our London based workshop and you’ll be responsible for the electronic engineering of our interactive artworks and exhibitions.
Relevant skills and experience:
- MEng/BEng Electrical/Electronic engineering or equivalent
- serial communications experience (especially RS485/RS422/DMX)
- experience of working with embedded devices; AVR/Arduino, Raspberry PI
- programming skills
- previous experience of start to finish electronic design (prototyping, schematic, board layout, connections, system wiring, safety, test procedures)
- proven ability to create very fast turnaround prototypes
- experience of working in film, art, event production, advertising or arts fabrication
- fluent in writing specifications and technical reports
- lighting experience a bonus
- sound understanding of complex power requirements
- a flexible and creative approach to working within a team
- impeccable communication and able to translate complex scenarios into layman terms
- keeping up to date with developments in technologies and regulations
- analytical and thorough work ethic
- strong planning and prioritising skills
