Studio Sutton is seeking an interior architect or architect with a minimum of five years’ of UK experience in the commercial workplace and fit-out sector and Vectorworks proficiency to join its growing team in London.
Studio Sutton is looking for a talented and highly motivated Interior Architect or Architect to join its team in London. The studio has a series of exciting projects within the commercial co-working, residential, hospitality and community sectors in the UK and internationally.
Studio Sutton is an architecture and interior design studio founded in 2019 on a combined 20 years of experience working for leading design firms on high quality projects in the UK and internationally for high-profile clients. We have particular expertise in creatively re-imagining existing buildings, taking a human-centred approach to help them become environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
The role
The chosen candidate would welcome becoming an integral part of a small, dynamic and friendly team (including office dog Charlie) predominantly based in our studio near London Bridge.
The chosen candidate will be responsible for managing the design and delivery of a series of high-profile co-working spaces in the UK and internationally.
This will involve working across all project stages; from initial space planning to meet the client’s business case, through to concept development, FF&E specification, technical detailing, coordination, onsite supervision and handover.
The chosen candidate will become the main point of contact with a global commercial client. Internally they will manage a team of junior designers as well as liaising closely with the studio directors, ensuring the projects are delivered in accordance to strict client deadlines and to an exceptional level of quality and attention to detail.
Being a small practice, the type of work and tasks undertaken are various and subject to regular change, requiring a positive and proactive attitude from all team members, working independently or collectively.
Beyond project work, there is an expectation that the chosen candidate will actively contribute to the overall development, progression and culture of the studio, improving standards and work processes and sharing of knowledge.
In exchange the studio will provide excellent mentoring and professional development opportunities through good exposure to all aspects of the operation of a friendly and ambitious architectural and interior design studio. We are passionate about all aspects of the design and aim to regularly attend relevant talks and exhibitions.
There is scope to work from home or elsewhere appropriate to suit your individual needs from time to time, beyond the pandemic. However, we will expect strong engagement and commitment in return for this flexibility. Government restrictions permitting, we will expect and encourage face to face collaboration as part of an energetic and driven studio culture. As such we are looking for candidates in or with easy access to Central London.
Our projects are currently based in London and overseas and you may be required to travel within the UK or abroad to attend project sites, suppliers and client meetings or training as required (restrictions permitting)
Requirements:
- interior architecture degree or a part 2/3 architecture qualification
- a minimum of five years’ UK based work experience in the commercial workplace and fit-out sector. Residential architectural and interior design experience is a bonus
- demonstrable experience relating to the role described above on high-quality, realised projects
- excellent experience in all stages of design projects from concept to tender to construction and handover
- excellent knowledge of and ability to navigate UK building regulations related to interior commercial fit-out projects
- excellent skills in Vectorworks 2D + 3D (applicants without Vectorworks skills will not be considered)
- excellent skills in Adobe Creative Suite applications. (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
- skills in other software such as Adobe After Effects and Twin Motion is a bonus
- ability to work in an Apple Mac environment
- UK resident status and legally able to work in the UK, residing in or close to London
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills, externally to clients and consultants and internally to team members
- excellent presentation and graphical representation skills including hand drawings
- excellent interiors specification knowledge including furniture
- self-motivated with excellent intuition, initiative and ability to work independently, whether remotely or in the office
- excellent time management and organisational skills and commitment to meeting strict client deadlines
- excellent attention to detail, including mental arithmetic
- excellent written and spoken English
- passion for architectural and interior design
In addition candidates should be able to:
- develop design concepts through a variety of media including sketching, computer 3D-modelling, 2D CAD drawing, material mood boards and concept presentations. Plus any other means necessary to ensure a timely and successful delivery of the project
- prepare and finalise client presentations and packages of work
- prepare and finalise specifications of materials and furniture
- prepare and finalise joinery and fixed furniture drawings
- actively engage in researching current trends in global design culture, workspace design, architecture, art, furniture, materials and sustainability
- build and maintain digital libraries of inspirational and technical references and physical libraries of material samples
- contact suppliers and request all relevant information in relation to new specifications or designs to suit the project in hand
- communicate confidently and effectively with senior designers, directors and other project stakeholders including the client, identifying potential risks and opportunities for projects, proactively offering solutions to problems should they arise
- contribute to administrative processes of the studio
- contribute to the social culture of the studio
