Holmes Miller is hiring a project architect to join its studio in St Albans, UK.

Holmes Miller is looking for an experienced project architect with a passion for architecture and track record in the technical delivery of schools, further education and public sector projects to join our St Albans studio. We have a number of exciting commissions, ranging from new college buildings and primary and secondary schools through to public building refurbishment, cultural and leisure projects.

The practice currently employs almost 100 staff with over 70 staff in the UK from its design studios in St Albans and Glasgow together with more than 30 staff in Guangzhou (PRC).

The project architect role involves:

  • undertaking both the design and management duties of projects of varying scale
  • liaising regularly and building strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and authorities
  • under direction of directors, design, develop and deliver projects at all stages in process
  • Preparing drawings, specifications and other information
  • day-to-day project management, including writing reports, preparing minutes of meetings, writing specifications/descriptions of materials and workmanship and issuing contract administration including AIs, valuations, etc
  • assisting with management of the design process, keeping projects on programme and within budget
  • regular reporting to directors on projects
  • directing architectural assistants in their project duties

The successful candidate will:

  • be passionate about exceeding client’s expectations in service delivery
    enjoy working as part of a team
  • have a proven ability to lead and manage projects from concept to completion
  • be capable of producing high-quality designs, detailed construction drawings and specifications
  • have excellent working knowledge of current UK planning guidelines, building regulations and technical standards
  • have strong organisational skills – able to work well under pressure and
  • manage workload efficiently to meet deadlines
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • be highly proficient in the use of REVIT, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and SketchUp
