AOC is seeking an architect to join its team in London, designing and delivering public projects.
The role
We are looking for a qualified RIBA Part 3 architect with design and construction experience to become part of our expanding design team in our Bethnal Green studio. You will have a critical role in designing and delivering ambitious packages, sections of project and whole projects, working closely with leading consultant teams for innovative clients. You will be the day-to-day project/package lead, taking responsibility for the role and communicating effectively with your junior team members and line managers. As a part of our integrated studio culture, you will be involved in all aspects of the practice, from project delivery to bidding for new work, from internal design reviews to improving office systems.
The practice
Established in 2005 AOC have gained international recognition for our inventive inquiry, participatory practice and characterful designs. We work with our clients, collaborating with users and other experts, to develop new briefs for contemporary challenges. We engage with communities and their cultures to make designs that are useful, valuable and joyful. We use resources inventively to optimise the use of energy and minimise the emission of carbon. We are currently working on a range of significant public buildings including a new civic centre in Ebbsfleet, the redevelopment of a Grade II listed museum in Bethnal Green and a new museum building in County Durham.
Essential skills/knowledge
- able to work both independently and in a small team with care and intelligence
- being an excellent designer with good interpersonal skills
- have a thorough understanding of construction methods and detailing
- to be Mac literate and proficient in Adobe CC – InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator – and MS Office 365
- efficient in 2D and 3D drafting – Vectorworks 2D essential, Vectorworks 3D desirable
- able to liaise with both client and consultant design teams to progress design development
- thorough knowledge of NBS and writing specifications
- good organisational skills with great attention to detail
- able to lead project and practice related research
- excellent written and spoken English language skills
