Heyne Tillett Steel is an award-winning structural and civil engineering practice with a reputation for intelligent design and innovative, practical solutions. Based in central London and established in 2007 by directors Andy Heyne, Mark Tillett and Tom Steel, the practice now has over 160 people. We currently work on exciting and innovative projects throughout the UK for many of the leading developers and architects.

The bid manager will be responsible for managing and writing effective bids, tender and presentations to support the practice in winning new business.

You will identify opportunities as well as respond to requests, manage the bid process, develop bid-winning strategies, conduct research, write and edit proposals, and collaborate with the wider practice to deliver timely and successful bids.

Our ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, great attention to detail and demonstrate a sound understanding of the industry. You will report to the head of marketing and communications, but you will work closely with the directors and the senior management team.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • analysing the tender document to understand the needs of the client
  • planning bid preparation to ensure that deadlines are met
  • creating proposals and writing content and case studies with technical support the director and senior team
  • collating materials provided from across the practice ensuring a uniform tone across the overall document
  • creating impactful practice profiles and presentation material to support new business opportunities and meetings
  • proactively monitoring bids, tenders, competitions and other industry sources for new opportunities

Requirements for the role include:

  • three to five years of experience successfully managing and writing bids, tender documents and presentations, alongside other various business development/marketing materials
  • a strong understanding of how to effectively dissect and analyse client and bid requirements and develop response plans for technical questions
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • to be thorough, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • strong organisational skills and ability to calmly manage a busy workload and deliver to tight deadlines
  • a positive can-do attitude and ability to use your initiative
  • graphics knowledge and experience of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) essential, with strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential
  • good Microsoft Office skills (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word), Microsoft Project
  • previous knowledge and experience of the design or construction sector
